In 1832 Asa Bales, Simon Moon and Abrose Osborne purchased sections of land from the Land Office in Indianapolis. On May 6, 1834, the three new landowners officially founded the Town of West Field by registering their Plat map showing 48 lots with the Hamilton County Justice of the Peace Benjamin Wheeler. The land north of Main Street belonged to Asa Bales. The land on the south west belonged to Simon Moon and the land to the south east to Ambrose Osborn.

The Town of Westfield in Hamilton county is laid out in the above plan, the Streets and Alleys and the Width, respectively marked in the Plat. Each lot is eighty two feet 6 inches in front and Extends back one hundred and fifty Six feet 9 inches.
The State of Indiana Hamilton County: Before me the undersigned an acting Justice of the Peace within and for Said County Personally come Ambrose Osborn, Simon Moon and Asa Bales and acknowledge the written to be a correct Plat and reference of teh Town of West field by them Laid out in Said County of Hamilton.
