We are so happy to welcome Hamilton County Historian David Heighway back to Westfield for a talk. David has been the Hamilton County Historian for many years. He works for the Hamilton County East Public Library and has also been involved in the theater! He has been here at the Westfield Washington Historical Society and related events several times and has always given us a fascinating topic. Last time we believe was February 2020 and it was about Women's History in Hamilton County including the suffrage movement!
This time he will focus his talk on the connection of Hamilton County to Juneteenth. The end of the Civil War and the announcement to the last large group of enslaved people in Texas that they are free and the war is over on June 19th 1865. There is a solid connection to Hamilton County to this event and even it seems more than one to Westfield! This is tied into the story of the USCT soldiers from Hamilton County.
The program will being at 7 PM, so please arrive early to secure a seat, grab a cookie, and listen to this talk and come prepared with some questions for the Q&A after. We have a limited number of seats available, so please come early if you can!
